This Month in Forest 🌲
Welcome to the May edition of This Month in Forest! We are excited to share the latest updates and improvements to the Forest Filecoin client (and more!).
Highlights
FIL Dev Summit in Toronto
The Team attended the FIL Dev Summit in Toronto, Canada. It was an exciting opportunity to connect with fellow builders in the Filecoin ecosystem, exchange ideas, and work together on important topics in offline-mode.
The main takeaways are available there.
We returned with fresh insights, renewed energy, and a roadmap shaped by real conversations with users, partners, and protocol developers.
SEO Improvements for the Faucet
Overall SEO and discoverability of the Faucet were improved.
Many thanks to @barbaraperic for leading this effort. 🚀
Development
Snapshot Garbage Collector
Forest now supports a Snapshot Garbage Collector, introducing a new
forest-cli chain prune snapcommand to export lite snapshots and prune parity-db.Garbage collector was added in the PR#5598, an automatic scheduler for the Snapshot GC was added in the PR#5639.
Print Index size in forest-tool
We brought more transparency to the forest-tool. Now
forest-tool archive inforeturns information on Index size, if applicable:PR#5662
Align RPC Token Handling with Lotus
Forest daemon now saves the RPC token to
{data_dir}/tokenby default, aligning with Lotus behavior. forest-cli was updated to consume this token automatically. PR#5629Other
As always, see the CHANGELOG for details. Note that it contains primarily client-facing changes, so if you're interested in the nitty-gritty details, you'll need to go through the commit history. 🤓
