In the original design of the TOM Toolkit, Target objects were intended to have relatively few fundamental parameters, since different science users have quite different parameters to describe the objects they study. These parameters were associated with each Target in a flexible table of extra_params. MOP makes extensive use of these parameters, but they have proven to be quite cumbersome, necessitating complex and intensive queries. Newer versions of the TOM Toolkit now provide the users with the ability to customize their Targets, adding the science-specific parameters as attributes on the model rather than as a separate model. This milestone will mark the migration of MOP over to using these Targets.
