After exploring building some node-red dashboards and writing a python service to enable MQTT messaging from DSF, I realised that it would be far more productive and useful for me & the community, if we had had access to a set of tools that enabled us to build the small programs and features we want ourselves. Node-Red is an ideal candidate for this, as it provides a user friendly, event based, low-code solution which facilitates rapid deployment and prototyping.
Node-Red is a proven tool for the DIY/Tinkerer and already has a large community. So I decided to learn how to write some custom nodes for node-red, and well...here we are. I hope you find it useful, and I hope to see some interesting flows from the community.
A big shout out to the guys over on discord, especially @jay_s_uk and @PCR, who helped me get started with RRF on SBC's. They are part of Team Gloomy and you should check out their project : RepRapFirmware for LPC and STM32. Props also go to the Duet team for their software and insight in creating the Machine Model in the first place, without which NodeDSF would not be possible.
NodeDSF is using many opensource platforms & libraries, written by people much cleverer than me. I am grateful for there continuing efforts, without which this project would have been much harder!
