Suggesting to rebase this to be based later code from Espressif's new upstream esp-usb-bridge repository which looks to have been refactored to be more modular and contains separate broken out components , see here and please consider suggestion:

Note! At least above linked repository contains newer code than the older code usb_wireless_bridge example which has not been updated in a while (and the updated readme for example now also references the new ESP USB Bridge repo for additional features):

Off-topic but wondering why Nabu Casa and Open Home Foundation developers did not choose to port USB-to-Serial components code from Espressif's esp-usb-bridge project to ESPHome so that you could instead have a native ESPHom-based firmware on the ESP32 as USB-to-UART bridge?

Would think such a feature (component) would be useful in upstream ESPHome not only for this but also for other things too?

That is, why not port this or those serial_handler, util, and debug_probe code libraries to the ESPHome firmware project as another way to promote the use of ESPHome even if only used for such a simple function?

I do not know the reason but not think that ESPHome has a native USB-to-Serial component yet?
