Description
I wrote BasicSync because the official Syncthing app was discontinued and the status of the syncthing-fork project is unclear. I intend for the app to be simple to maintain so that I can easily keep it in sync with upstream releases. As such, it does not have its own UI for Syncthing's functionality. Everything is configured through Syncthing's normal web UI.
Compared to prior apps, the main technical benefit is that BasicSync integrates Syncthing as a library (similar to how RSAF integrates rclone) instead of just bundling the syncthing executable. This means on Android 12+, Syncthing won't be killed by Android's child process restrictions. Other than that, BasicSync basically just runs Syncthing.
Since I'm very reliant on Syncthing, I plan to keep BasicSync up to date for the forseeable future. However, if someone develops a better app that I like in the future, I'll likely stop working on it.
Please keep in mind that this is a personal project and I don't intend to implement all the functionality that prior apps had. I'm likely to turn down most feature requests.
Also, I will not be participating in Google's developer verification program. For my thoughts on that, see chenxiaolong/RSAF#189. This means once Google starts enforcing the new restrictions in 2026/2027, installing BasicSync may require workarounds.
