				<h1>Hack for Food!</h1>
			  <p>The event is a part of the National Day of Civic Hacking, and it is called "Hack for Food."  It is a hackathon sponsored by Code for Asheville, <br  /><br  />
			    There will be outdoor activities (a picnic, an optional fruit tree planting) as well as indoor hacking for coders and non-coders.  (There is also a "Meet and Greet" event the night before at Mojo Coworking.)<br  /><br  /> 
			    <span style="font-weight:bold">EVERYONE</span> who attends the event will get <span style="font-weight:bold">$100 of Amazon web services credits</span>.  How cool is that?  That is quite a return on the $10 ticket price. Food (breakfast snacks,lunch, and dinner) and Beverages provided<br  /><br  />
			    The first 50 people get T-shirts  (and swag bag)! <br  /><br  />

         					<li>Boxes of local organic veggies from New Sprout Organic Farms</li>
                            <li>Coffee from Counter Culture</li>

        <p>If you can use excel you can hack so join the Hack for Food and you will be placed on a team working on one of the goals listed <a href="http://www.abfoodpolicy.org/asheville-buncombe-food-action-plan/"  target="_blank">here</a>. You don't need to be tech savvy to participate. We want anyone who wants to help or learn!</p>

     <h3>Need Ideas?</h3>    
 
         <ol>
          <li>Find and locate the best City owned property to create a community garden.</li>
          <li>Create a web application to tell other community gardeners when a community garden needs weeding, feeding, watering, or harvesting.</li>
          <li>Create an infographic that examines the lack access to nutritious foods for some neighborhoods in Buncombe County.</li>
          <li>Create a more streamlined technology-based method to apply for food stamps.</li>
          <li>Develop a mobile app to alert people to mobile food markets.</li>
          <li>Here are some ideas from a food hackathon in San Fransisco in April <a href="https://www.hackerleague.org/hackathons/food-hackathon/hacks" target="_blank">Food Hackathon</a>!</li>
          <li>Use an existing OpenSource applicaion like <a href="https://github.com/ysiadf/AllIncomeFoods" target="_blank">snapfresh</a></li>
          <li>Or come up with your own using <span style="font-weight:bold">DATA</span> from <a href="http://opendatacatalog.ashevillenc.gov/opendata/tag/40/?sort=name&dir=asc" target="_blank">City of Asheville Data Catalog</a> or  <a href="https://github.com/CodeForAsheville/HackForFoodData" target="_blank">gitHub</a></li>

     <h3>Basic Goals of the Asheville-Buncombe Food Policy Council</h3>   
			  <ol>
				  <li>An inventory of local food resources;</li>
				  <li>Identify and implement ways to increase local food production for local consumption;</li>
				  <li>Identify ways to increase access for those who currently do not have it;</li>
				  <li>Encourage locally grown food being served in City and County Schools;</li>
				  <li>Develop a plan and implement it through public-private partnerships to ensure a minimum of a one week’s supply of emergency food for the entire county’s population in any season of the year;</li>
				  <li>Identify economic development opportunities related to agriculture that will enable our region to become nutritionally self-sufficient and economically robust;</li>
				  <li>Track progress toward increased food production, access, and agriculture-related economic development and to report it out to the public and to policy makers regularly;</li>
			  </ol>
