Description
The codebook needs to have clearer guidance on double-counting core prep/blank production steps as retouch steps. For example, some microblade cores are in many ways analogous to burins, but if we code retouch through pressure flaking, burination and invasive retouch as present, we should not also be coding blank production through pressure flaking, and invasive flaking, as present. However, that way of differentiating the codes is not reflected in the codebook right now. This is mainly a problem for microblade cores.
Some possibilities are getting rid of invasive retouch, and getting rid of pressure flaking retouch. Instead, we just have an overarching pressure flaking present/absent (for retouch or blank production), and invasive flaking (works for blade production, as well as invasive retouch/pressure flaking bifaces). Burination should also be slightly reworked to ensure that the microblade cores at places like High River aren't interpreted as burins, while leaving room to use burination to describe the initiation of some kinds of microblade cores.
