To answer your question, you can put anything you like in your display name. If you want to have structured profile fields, this is achievable with PUT /_matrix/client/v3/profile/{userId}/{key_name} (supported by recent Synapse versions, to be released in the next Matrix spec version). But most clients do not expose this information yet (other users aren't likely to see it).

Sorry, I thought this was on the Synapse repo, in which case the above suggestion was not relevant. But note that support requests should still be made in that Matrix room instead.

Currently the user's display name is only constructed from the name attribute from the LDAP server:
