A few issues:

• Klantcontacten > 9999999999 will block usage of the component, as seen in the Taiga issue
• The error message isn't clear ("Er kon niet automatisch een opvolgend nummer worden gegenereerd. Het maximaal aantal tekens is bereikt."

Discussed with Team Bron, the options would be:

• Increasing the 10-character limit, however this would be backwards-incompatible with other components
• reusing numbers, however this may conflict with older Klantcontacten that are removed
• Not allowing the ability to specify the number (or ignore it!)

To be checked with @joeribekker if the option to specify the number can be removed in the next major release
