Access local data

Hi!

Really cool project, I was able to correctly set up my notebook.

I don't know if it is possible due to the nature of JupyterLite, but I wanted to know if there was a way of accessing the local data of my computer from the notebook. I understand that you are able to upload it to the file system in the notebook. But I have a 5GB image that I would like to use on my notebook and directly accessing the local files would help.

hi @IvanHCenalmor, can you try this extension https://github.com/jupyterlab-contrib/jupyterlab-filesystem-access ? You can add it to the pip section of your environment yaml file.

I gave a try to jupyterlab-filesystem-access and open the notebook on Microsoft Edge (as I have seen that is one of the supported browsers). The extension seems to be installed as the new filesystem tab appears. But when clicking to open the local filesystem nothing happens:

I tried on a regular JupyterLite session and it seems to work so I don't think that this is an issue with the browser:

I checked the Developers console on the browser and I found this error:

Uncaught (in promise) SecurityError: Failed to execute 'showDirectoryPicker' on 'Window': Cross origin sub frames aren't allowed to show a file picker.

Thanks for testing it, indeed it's a security limit since we do use a cross-origin subframe. This will need more investigation from our side. cc @martinRenou
