Build failing on Debian 13

I am able to build tjs by removing FFI support

You can set the USE_EXTERNAL_FFI=ON environment variable and it will use the libffi version in your system (you need to have the development files installed).

I tried that. Didn't change anything. So I got rid of FFI support altogether. Then I built tjs.

It should've done something different, since we don't run auto tools when linking with the system library...

I'm not not opposed to making it optional.

I'm pretty sure I tried with USE_EXTERNAL_FFI=ON make. I am currently using tjs for TCP and UDP socket and Native Messaging host. I don't use FFI with tjs, so I'm not losing anything.
