Wouldn't this:
a) require a specialized ox-files module with an API distinct from both java.io and java.nio? best case we could hope for is drop-in replacement, if that's even possible
b) be non-portable at all as io_uring is a linux-only thing?

Yes and yes. The API could probably yield InputStreams I guess? Or Flow[Chunk[Byte]]?
