It seems like the current Deck.gl ecosystem is reaching a range of technical savvy users, but I wonder if there's a way to flip this around to look at how these visualizations might be but more easily shared and collected and played around with by even less technically savvy users.
Chris Gervang and Adam Krebs’ amazing Noodles presentation at the Open Vis conferenced reminded me of the node-based, parametric, 3D modeling tool Grasshopper and ShapeDiver which lets users upload, host, and edit these scripts online. Here's the Shapediver public sandbox showing some of the models. But Shapediver also allows users to embed a script via iFrame for customers/clients to interact with resulting in some interesting businesses built on the tool. For example, Chickadee a design/build firm allows you to customize and visualize an ADU. This Brazilian company has a massive catalog of furniture you can customize, visualized and they will build and deliver. Wood Skin allows you to create custom wood panelling/facade that they will also build for you.
Adam and I were talking about what an equivalent might look like for Deck.gl/Noodles/Kepler, a platform that allows users to upload, host, and share live Deck.gl visualizations to teach concepts, showcase examples, or present data to clients. I gather from Adam that other's have been discussing this and he suggested I post about the Grasshopper/Shapediver ecosystem. I'm curious what the thinking in the past has been about such a tool as I'm not 100% clear on the user base or needs here.
