sluggish Tabi build performance (40 secs for 1,000 pages) #578

@andycowl-dev

Description

@andycowl-dev

System information

  • Zola: 0.21.0
  • Tabi: latest GitHub snapshot
  • CPU: Intel i7-6700 CPU @ 3.40GHz (4 cores, 8 threads)
  • Memory: 48GB

Expected behaviour

Zola with the Tabi theme should provide similar levels of build performance to similar Zola themes.

As Zola provides no verbose or debug options, diagnosing performance issues and determining where the bottleneck lies is difficult for the non-technical, end user.

Actual behaviour

Zola with the Tabi theme consistently takes 40 seconds to build my site of 1,000 pages.

Other popular Zola themes with the same content, similar functionality and site structure build the same site much quicker.

  • Serene: 0.35 secs
  • Linkita: 1.77 secs
  • Bearblog: 0.26 secs
  • PaperMod: 20.70 secs

Steps to reproduce

Clone the repo available at:

https://codeberg.org/andyc/zola-tabi.git

$ zola build
Building site...
Checking all internal links with anchors.

Successfully checked 12 internal link(s) with anchors.
-> Creating 1033 pages (0 orphan) and 3 sections
Done in 40.4s.

Final checklist

  • I've checked that the issue isn't already reported.
  • I've tested with the latest version of tabi to check if the issue has already been fixed.
