Spotify redirect URLs must be https

I was trying to setup the Spotify-Diy-Thing and it seems as of 9th April 2025, Spotify are enforcing https on their redirect URIs:
https://developer.spotify.com/documentation/web-api/concepts/redirect_uri

I presume this means one would need to setup a self-signed cert somehow for this app now?

Same issue Here tried http://IP:80/callback which didn't seem to work keep getting insecure redirect URI

I managed to change to code to create a https uri, manages to get to the spotify request permission page but then won't get any further.

Same issue here. Unable to get the app to authenticate for the same reasons above.

So you can edit the URL at each fail stage to add and spoof the HTTPS portion. It generates the token, but then won't actually function (skip buttons dont work, no info on screen). Assuming traffic is being blocked because it's trying for a secure connection.

The simplest workaround I found was to change the code to use HTTPS for the callback URL and then edit the URL to use HTTP in your browser when you are redirected.

Then build and flash your board and go through the authentication process. When it tries to redirect you, it won't work, since it can't connect over https, so just edit the URL in your browser to use http and it should work as expected

For me when I build this way, and then drop the S fro HTTPS in the browser, I get the "Got Token, your device should be ready" response and the device boots into the previous/forward arrows, but other than that, it completely blank and does not respond or action anything on arrow press.

I would monitor your board over serial to see what it outputs

Thanks for the help. So with a fresh sketch build and upload, on serial mode, I was able to get it to run! Some errors in the serial print out and I do have an issue where album art seems to only load 1/3 songs or so, or takes most of the song to pop in, but thats for another day!

That does seem odd cause they load for me every time and usually only take about 5-10 seconds to load in

this helped! but no need to even change anything in code. just add the address with https to spotify then when authenticating just change the http to https in the url when going to spotify and the reverse when coming back. wait I might be wrong 👀 checking again

Unfortunately Spotify are enforcing https - even with some trickery (which does complete the ui flow but doesn't actually work) it won't work and just get a black screen with the previous/next track buttons
