This resolves an issue whereby the player fails to move to the next track if the screen is off.

I'm also experiencing an issue (seeming only with long playlists) where I select a track and lock the screen , the music stops. might this fix that?

It will only impact you when casting to a Chromecast Audio device. But the general idea might if applied elsewhere.

Forgot to mention -- you can accomplish the same thing by disabling battery optimization, so you should try that for your problem. But you shouldn't have to, hence the PR.
